Yes. And it is recommended.
No. But the rice sandwich is close-ish.
Get a table instead of bar seat, you should be fine
Yes.
They do not have okonomiyaki.
This is a Japanese Bar. They do not solicit this place as a sit down meal. The tables are only for 2 or 4. The menu consists of small plates and items that should be ordered in the multiples.
This place was so good. Really a gem. Shrimp tempura was awesome. Usually always a wait though so make sure you get there early
The best Japanese restaurant in DFW area!I really like their salmon sashimi, pretty fresh and tasty.
We had an absolutely fantastic meal here even with three vegetarians in our group! Service was prompt and we got seated within a couple minutes of our reservation despite the full restaurant and our group being eight. The food was all incredible, I had the agedashi tofu and some shoyu ramen and it was easily the best of both dishes I've had in DFW. Must try for any fan of Japanese food!
Shut off from the outside world, after walking through the doors, you will instantly lose yourself in the smells and sights of Japanese cuisine. Lively atmosphere, piping hot food that is fresh and delicious. #recommend
Very nice, authentic Japanese food. Tuna Sashimi was fresh. Food portions are small and we'll priced. Once can have many items from the menu.
Amazing! Wonderful food with great prices. I love it here!
Loved here fried food!
So delicious, and the service was great! Thank you
Too expensive. 8 to 9 dollars for an average grilled item. Ordered grilled skewered beef but did not have any grilled flavor. 18 dollars for a 5 piece sashimi. They asked about eggs in our ramen without telling us there will be an extra charge. Not in a safe neighborhood. Food wasn't that delicious either. Will not go there again.
This place is a hidden gem, its a sashimi spot not sushi. I suggest the taiiwan ramen which is a bit spicy with skwered beef hits the spot every time.
Im from kc which doesn't have great Japanese food. I wish they started a brach here. It has authentic Japanese food I really recomend the tokoyaki and wasabi squid
We had a superb in this place. We loved the nice vibes and the food. The staff members were super welcoming. I am glad we eventually managed to try this place.
The food here is always amazing. Definitely my favorite place in the DFW area for Japanese food. Be prepared to wait if you have a large party at peak hours because there is limited table seating. Making a reservation ahead of time is definitely recommend for parties bigger than 2.
Always a great place for good Japanese food. Great service too!
Great atmosphere! Really tasty food. And nice servers!
This place is definitely a new favorite. A little out of the way but worth the drive. Don’t judge it too hard from the outside. The traditional Japanese interior is so warm and welcoming. The staff are super friendly and upbeat. The food reminded me so much of Japan, especially the portions. If you are starving I definitely recommend ordering a few items. The only down side was the “Kobe beef.” It was not worth the $10 for two small skewers. It was just a light cut of beef. Not Kobe.
Might seem underwhelming from the outside but as soon as you walk in, it will seem like you stepped into Japan. Great variety of menu from sashimi to grilled goods to ramen and great atmosphere as well. Come with friends if you are in the area and you won’t be disappointed.
Went there for the first time with a couple of friends. Lovely place, the decor makes you feels like you are in Japan! Great food and service. Super busy all the time. Be sure to make a reservation or be prepare to wait!
Long wait time but the food and service is well worth it!!! Authentic Japanese food, really good!
Definitely top 5 in DFW Ramen
There was a long wait here. Rightfully so! The atmosphere is reminiscent of an izakaya from Japan. The service was excellent and attentive. The menu was like I would have expected had I been in Japan. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quickly.
One of few authentic Japanese izakaya in Dallas. Highly recommended. Very take-out friendly due to the pandemic. Call ahead for reservations or ordering to go!
Amazing place most authentic Japanese in the DFW.
Most authentic Japanese restaurant I've ate at in Texas. Super delicious food. Great prices. Cheap Asahi draft. What more could you ask for?
Excellent! Authentic Japanese food.
This place is amazing!! I'm sorry I didn't get photos of my food but the restaurant is so cool. You actually take your shoes off if you don't sit at the bar. Outside looks a bit sketchy and we were a little worried walking up. The second you open the door, you're in a completely different place. The food is a little pricey and it's a grill so you actually order several small dishes instead of a regular meal. I got a sushi special and itnwas so fresh. Definitely want to go back, it's just really far away from us.
The food was really good! They did the good job cooking the food. The service was excellent as well! Glad that I had the great time on my first visit!
Amazing food and amazing service. I really felt like I was eating in a small japanese restaurant.
Best restaurant in Dallas. Hands down. Don’t go on a Friday or Saturday night unless you have reservations.
Holy $h++, it's like being in Osaka and Kyoto at the same time takes you to Japan in what looks like a hair salon from the front. If you enjoy Japanese food this is the place to go hands down. Kanpai all the night long.
4.8 stars out of 5 is unheard of. The odds a restaurant could achieve that are astronomical. The 5 star reviews of this restaurant, however, are spot on. Perfect in every regard.
Incredible experience! Walking in the door felt like stepping through a portal into Japan. Excellent food, friendly staff. If you enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, put this fine establishment on your bucket list.
I have been going to Mr.Max for 3 years now.Very friendly staffs, awesome food and great price.Place can get packed real fast but it worth the wait.
Best authentic Japanese food in DFW in my opinion! So many great things to check out on the menu. This is my go to place for date night or a fun night with friends.
This place deserves a 5 star rating. My wife and I tried Mr. Max for the first time today and we have decided to make this our go-to spot for Japanese food (if only we had known about them sooner!). The atmosphere feels very authentic and you can taste the passion that the staff puts into the food. We had the grilled squid, karaage chicken and their pork curry and it was fantastic. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. We’re so thankful to have found this place! Go check it out.
Although the physical features of this restaurant are not the most enticing you must not be fooled because when you’re going to a restaurant, you’re going for the food, right? Well, this place is where it’s at! My partner and I were quite apprehensive once we saw the outside of this place but we were very glad and satisfied when we decided to walk in and give it a try. The food was wonderful! From the bacon wrapped tomatoes to the edamame to the hot udon noodles to the grilled salmon to the ramen and to all of the hot sake and Japanese beer you could ever want. We ordered a plethora of items and they did not disappoint whatsoever! Our bill was on the higher end (76$), however, we did indulge but it was so worth it. Definitely give this place a chance and wear socks! Also, I would recommend calling in advance and getting a reservation!
Oh man, the food here is to die for! My husband and I came here for dinner on a week night, and it was PACKED! I can see why.. everything was fantastic from the service and food to the cleanliness. If you're looking for a more authentic Japanese restaurant, you must give this place a try. Keep an open mind with the menu! The items are cheap enough that you can give something new a try that you normally wouldn't!
Great Japanese tappas place. Good for late night snacks. Karaage chicken = fried chicken nuggets are greatSashimi is always fresh Too many to list.Love the food. Reservations are always good. If you like clams the sake steamed clams are a must.
Takoyaki is on point! And the curry is a sweeter style but very delicious! I highly recommend this spot
Fantastic, cozy, and it reminded me of my time in Tokyo. If you want an authentic Japanese restaurant, this is it. Good prices, cheap Asahi draft, and friendly staff.
Amazing little place. Don't let the storefront or the name fool you. This is one of those small little gems that are worth so much more! Authentic Japanese food with authentic atmosphere and great service. I don't give out 5 stars lightly, this one deserves it!
Highly recommended the taiwan ramen and seasame seed skewered meat.
Good food, very efficient crew in the restaurant. They serve sashimi and tempera/skillets, but not sushi. The food is excellent. But it is usually a long wait if you walk in. Advise to call one day earlier to reserve a seat.
This restaurant is in the style of backstreet Tokyo izakayas and it has a very warm and welcoming presence to it. It took us making a reservation two days in advance to get a table for 4. It is a very high traffic location and I can see why.The food was so delicious and the staff were so warm and friendly, it has become one of my favorite places to go. I definitely recommend this as a spot for anyone looking for a more authentic Japanese cuisine that can almost be considered comfort food.
Hidden gem in city if Irvin for Japanese cuisine. Must try
i love it! everything amazing. if i have to wait, i can go somewhere and later restaurant call me back. so good!
So different from the strip mall it is in! Interior is very Japanese, including low dining tables. Bar area does have bar seats. Very small, and packed. Great good.
Very good. More for cooked Japanese food over sushi
Mr. Max is the greatest authentic Japanese restaurant in the area. If you're looking for a tapas restaurant that's Japanese this is the place for you. They have various seating arrangements- you can sit @ the bar or cross legged on a pillow with your shoes off. Make a reservation or expect to wait an hour- easy.
Love Mr. Max, the food is incredible, the staff is so accommodating and helpful for newcomers. It's an amazing, authentic experience with Japanese food that I would recommend the world over
